Early Friday morning San Luis Roadsters headed south, bound for the Annual Los Angeles Roadsters Show held at the Fairplex, Pomona, which never ceases to amaze, as one of the top shows in the nation.
We met many old friends as well as new; Guys with names like Dale, David and Ron traveling 4,500+ miles across country, running in topless roadsters year after year to attend this mega gathering.
The week leading up to the show is packed with shop tours both large and small giving a look at work in progress, the streets becoming a rod run of sorts as hundreds of street rods make the scene.
The show opens early Saturday morning with a solid line of roadsters pulling in, greeted by the friendly L. A. Roadsters members, as the cruise through the lane with fellow roadster clubs San Luis Roadsters and California Roadsters on the sides, passing the Bay Area Roadsters displayed at the center of the activities leading to the prime parking areas under the trees, and between the buildings; while this is going on other entry gates are admitting several thousand special interest cars, coupes, sedans and the like, there is a gate for the hundreds of swap meet vendors, gates for spectators, with a special display of ’36 roadsters at the main gate. Building 4 is jammed with manufacturers, specialty vendors as well as several of the L. A. Roadsters member cars, a cacklefest is held during the show…and if this is not enough, the club hosts a BBQ on the ‘hill’ for the roadster drivers Saturday evening!
Sunday finds a more casual atmosphere, giving you an opportunity to visit with the roadster owners, meander through the specialty car area possibly searching for ‘that’ car you just can’t live without…as the weekend comes to an end the roadster drivers line up to receive the coveted pewter mug that has been presented each year to those that….drive ‘em!
See you there in 2017!
