Nostalgia Funny cars

The fact that the Annual March Meet is so popular among the racers and the fans was proven yet again, with 27 NFC entries on the grounds; entries from Canada, Washington, Arizona, Michigan as well as Ohio were on hand, with the fastest class in history.

While we’re talking fast, how about Mike McIntire, Chesterland, Ohio, in the McAttack ’70 Camaro with an out of the box 5.549 et @ 253.61 mph, the quickest run in NFC history!

When all of the qualifying and elimination rounds were behind them it was down to Ryan Hodgson, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada , who was the # 5 qualifier vs. Kris Krabill, Tacoma, Washington, # 3 qualifier for the final…unfortunately, Sunday’s rain forced the finals to Monday, with Ryan Hodgson taking the Wally over Krabill, who experienced a major fire at the finish line…fortunately with Kris’s quick reactions, along with the outstanding safety crew’s response, Kris was out of the car, with no injuries, a testament to the overall safety concerns of all involved.

Enjoy the racing as seen through the lens of the Nikon….

Top Fuel, Rear Engine Top Fuel, A/Fuel, Jr. Fuel, AA/FA classes had the fans on the rail as the competition was tight throughout the ranks.

While the rain shortened event forced some of the finals to a later date, Mendy Fry, who recently made the transition from the nitro funny cars back to the Nostalgia Top fuel car class, driving the High Speed Motorsports car, qualified 8th in the 8 car field, only to come out the 2017 Champion, facing off against #2 qualifier Jim Murphy who failed to light at the line; Mendy had low e.t. of the weekend with a 5.597 final pass, Dusty Green laid down a 256.21 mph run to have the top speed of the event.

Rear engine Top Fuel, a relatively new addition saw veteran driver Michael Halstead come out the Champion, also setting low e.t. for the event w/ a 6.046, while another pass netted him the top speed of the show w/ a blistering 237.55 mph.  Runner up was Jim Maroney, Gilbert, AZ.

AA/FA saw Bryan Hall who had also qualified in the #8 position run away with the Championship, with a quick 6.066 e.t.  against runner up James Generalao Jr., the #3 qualifier.

A/Fuel, as well as Jr. Fuel were forced to a later date for the final rounds due to the rain shortened event.

Enjoy the mixture, Nostaglia Top Fuel, Rear Engine Top Fuel, A/Fuel, Jr. Fuel and AA/FA all tossed in….
