HOUSE SPRINGS, Missouri — One International Hot Rod Association division was bursting at the seams with the recent addition of tracks in the Southeast.
As a result of that huge growth over recent months, a new region has been formed with IHRA Division 8 (South) consisting of tracks from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
The first IHRA Division 8 (South) Summit Team Finals will be held Sept. 28-30 at Alabama International Dragway. It’s a convenient location directly off Interstate 59 at exit 174.
Hosting a Team Finals harkens back to the past for the Steele, Alabama facility as track owner Jason Collins explained. The move will cut down on the travel time for the tracks involved.
“We’ve had the bracket finals before and I know it will be a great event,” Collins said. “It’s an honor for us to host the Division 8 finals. A lot of the racers who are in this division will like it too because it’s not that far of a journey.”
Division 8 tracks include: Alabama International Dragway, Baileyton Dragstrip, Brainerd Motorsports Park, Crossville Dragway, Holiday Raceway, Huntsville Dragway, I-22 Motorsports Park and Knoxville Dragway.
If recent history is any indication, this promises to be one of the strongest divisions out there.
Knoxville Dragway has produced three IHRA World Champions over the last five years, while 2021 IHRA Sportsman World Champion David Bigham represented Crossville and also frequently raced at Brainerd.
